Google recently published some fascinating data about the top web searches of 2015. As a web design company, we are always interested in this kind of data as it helps with our development of internet marketing strategies.
Whilst some of the searches were what you might expect being related to international breaking news stories, others were surprising, providing an insight into the subjects that capture the interest and attention of web users today.
Web Trends List
The Google web trends lists break down into lots of categories such as news. celebrities, sporting events, politicians, music, tv shows and more. Of far greater interest, however, are the top searches for ‘what is’, ‘who is’ and ‘when is’. Top searches (again from the UK) were:
what is a penny black stamp
who is Lucy the Australopithecus
when is Easter 2015
If you made up a profle of a typical British citizen on this basis you would conclude them to be a stamp collector with an interest in human evolution who prefers to go on holiday in the Spring! Well, maybe that’s a little too generalized but it indicates at the very least that we Brits are an interesting bunch 🙂
Here is Google’s own 2015 retrospective which is worth watching
