Getting Started With Your Website

The following gives a brief outline of what is needed to develop a website and get it up and running:

1. Domain Name - You will need a domain name which is basically your address on the Internet. It can be your company name or it may be a keyword rich name such as progressive-rock.com. More detail

2. Website Content - We always say to clients that obviously they are in the best position to write the copy/content for the website. However, we frequently get involved in this process when requested. Basically you need to decide exactly how you want to portray your business on the internet.

3. Photos / Logos - You can supply your photos or company logo either on hard copy (prints) or in digital format (preferable). The photos do not have to be superb as we can do much to digitally improve and enhance them. Again, we can often be of assistance with this. You must ensure that you either own the copyright in all images provided to us or have permission/clearance from the copyright owner to use such.

4. Website Hosting - Hosting is essentially renting web space on a server. Your website has to have a home on the Internet and this is it! We provide full commercial hosting tailored to your requirements including multiple e-mail addresses when needed, hit counter and secure server if required as well as many other facilities. More detail

5. Search Engine Optimisation - This is an area that we specialise in. If you want to get business from the major search engines then the first step is to have your website properly optimised so that it can be easily found and indexed. This involves carefully crafting the website to be "search engine friendly" - and for the most relevant terms. Other strategies also have to be employed including paid indexations, directory listings (many of which require fees), link popularity work and pay-per-click campaigns, particularly if you're in a competitive field. If you sell products you may need to build visibility in Google Products and there is also the growing importance of blog writing to be considered.

6. Getting Your Site To Show in the Top Search Engines - Contrary to what you are told in numerous junk e-mails, there are only a handful of search engines that carry any real worth. On many of the sites we market the analytics show 60-80% of all traffic coming from Google alone. Google is the most difficult of all the search engines on which to achieve top search engine rankings for competitive search terms .... but then that's the challenge and we thrive on rising to meet it!
